Chuck Todd enters his third season with the Iona College baseball program as an assistant coach. The Rockland County, NY native brings a wealth of coaching and professional playing experience to the Gaels in 2009. He will be Coach Carey’s bench coach and work extensively with the hitters this season.
Todd’s previous college coaching experience includes five seasons at his alma mater SUNY-Rockland, as an assistant to NJCAA Hall of Fame head coach Dan Keeley from 1994-1999. He is currently the manager of the Warwick Renegades 13 and under team that competes in the Hudson Valley Spring League of Elite Championship Tournament Baseball. Todd also serves as a manager and All Star manager in the Warwick Little League. His knowledge, energy, and passion for baseball have earned accolades from current and former players, parents and even major league managers.
As a scholastic athlete at North Rockland High School Todd was a four-sport letterwinner in baseball, football, basketball and volleyball. He was the North Rockland baseball team captain and MVP in 1982 and 1983. He was a three time All-County catcher and the 1983 Journal News Rockland County Player of the Year. Todd holds the Rockland County single season record for home runs and runs batted in. He was inducted into the North Rockland Sports Hall of Fame in January of 2008.
Todd played two seasons at SUNY-Rockland in Suffern, NY. He was an All-Conference and All-Region performer as a freshman and sophomore. Todd served as team captain and MVP in 1985. He was named the Mid-Hudson Conference Player of The Year in 1985 and led the nation in runs batted in.
After his freshman season at Rockland, Todd was drafted in the 10th round of the 1984 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Texas Rangers. He decided to return to school for his sophomore season and was drafted again in the 10th round. Todd signed to play professionally with the Cleveland Indians in June of 1985 and spent three seasons as a catcher in their minor league system. In his first professional season at Batavia in the New York Penn League, Todd led the team in batting with a .302 average and was tabbed as one of the organizations top hitting prospects. During his professional career his teams earned The Florida Instructional League Championship in 1985 and the Midwest League Championship in 1986
Todd resides in Warwick, NY with his wife Annmarie and their three boys, Charlie (13), Jack (10) and Danny (8).
