STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK # 9 - OCTOBER 30, 2007

Senior RB Dane Samuels helped the Iona College football team clinch a winning season and at least a share of the 2007 MAAC Championship with this past weekend's defeat of Duquesne.  Samuels had two huge touchdowns for the Gaels (6-2, 2-0).  He broke a 58-yard run for a touchdown to give the Gaels an early 14-0 lead.  In the late stages of the game with the Maroon and Gold up by just four points, Samuels took a swing pass from the backfield 71-yards to the end zone to make it 28-17 .  The Gaels held on to take a 28-23 victory thanks to Samuels' 193 yards on the ground and 103 receiving yards.  Samuels was honored for his performance with the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week.  This is his second time this season he's take home this honor, tying him with teammates sophomore QB Nick Rossetti and senior DE Rob Wright.
