South Orange, NJ - The Iona College swimming and diving teams returned from their training trip in Ft. Lauderdale and a big win over Dickinson. The Gaels got back in the pool against Seton Hall, but the Pirates controlled the waters as the Iona men fell 124-91 and the women were dunked 127-89.

"We seemed a bit sluggish at the start of the meet," commented head coach Nick Cavataro. "But we started to show some speed in the back half of the meet." The Gaels had a double winner in freshman Jon Riddle, who took the one meter dive with a score of 147.38 and the three meter dive with a score of 157.50. "I am very pleased with double win effort of Jon Riddle in only his second meet of the year," said Cavataro. "He he has really progressed."

Other winners for the Gaels on the men's side included junior Karim Mabrouk in the 100-Breast (1:06.70), sophomore David Gartman in the 100-Free (49.10), and the 400-Free relay made up of freshman Seth Tasman, Gartman, and seniors Mark Rich and William Walsh (3:17.40).

On the women's side, senior Kerby Lewis touched first in the 100-Free with a time of 55.80. Freshman Sarah Walker took home the 100-Breast in 1:12.26, just edging out senior Amanda McCarthy by .32 seconds. Cavataro said about the Gaels after the meet that he is "confident we'll get better in each of our next three meets leading up to MAAC Championships."

The Gaels are back in the pool Thursday in Jersey City against MAAC rival St. Peter's at 4 pm.
