Kissimmee, FL - The Iona College softball team is looking for a win after a tough second day at the 2008 Rebel Spring Games. After tough losses on day one, the Gaels (3-9) were unable to get into a rhythm in a 19-0 loss to Cornell and couldn't recover against URI in a 2-0 defeat.
The Big Red (8-3) jumped out to a commanding lead with eight runs crossing the plate in the first inning on four hits. Cornell went on to score in every inning and held the Maroon and Gold to just two hits on its way to a 19-0 win. Amanda Glaser struggled in her first outing of the season and took the loss. Becky Riccitelli went 1-for-2 and Erin Kyle was 1-for-1 reaching on a single and a walk.
The Gaels tried to rebound against URI in the second game. The Rams (3-13) scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh when Iona had its best scoring opportunity. The Maroon and Gold got back-to-back hits from Lolli Mills and Riccitelli, but they were left stranded as URI pulled out a 2-0 win. Riccitelli threw a complete game with 6.0 innings, five hits, two runs, none earned, and seven strikeouts.
Iona returns to the oval on Tuesday, March 18 to face Lafayette and Wagner.
