Annapolis, MD - The Iona College baseball team dropped its fifth straight to start the season in an 8-0 decision to Central Connecticut State at the Navy Baseball Round-Robin Tournament this afternoon. The Blue Devils' five runs in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference.

2B Mike Walraven, LF Andrew Passerelle, SS Joe Lorenzo and DH Kevin Mollema recorded the Gaels (0-5) four hits in the contest.

Senior RHP Shane Sveda (0-2) took the loss. He allowed nine hits and four earned runs while recording five strikeouts and no walks through eight innings.

Senior RF Jak Kidd was 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI for the Blue Devils. Senior LHP Matt Gianini (1-1) earned the win.

Iona continues action in Annapolis tomorrow when they take on Rhode Island in the tournaments final day at 11:00 am. The Gaels rained out contest vs. Navy from Friday afternoon will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon beginning at Noon. The opener is scheduled for seven innings while the night cap will be a nine inning game.
