NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College women's swimming and diving team secured a 123-76 victory over St. Francis Wednesday evening at the Hynes Center Pool. The win improves the Gaels' record this season to 4-1.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the Iona squad of Kelsie Johnson, Jamie Manser, Sam Cody and Mackenzie Mone finished with a time of 1:58.11, besting their St. Francis counterparts by more than 15 seconds.
The Gaels swept the top three of the 1000 yard freestyle as Kara Nowakowski (10:59.07), Victoria Ponzo (11:01.06) and Kellie Mark (11:57.53) secured places first through third.
Mone took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.96. Catie McGregor's 2:03.22 placed her second, while Christine Williams' 2:07.02 was good for a fourth place finish.
In the closest event of the evening, Theresa Harvey (24.99) finished second to St. Francis' Sonya Jaggernaught by just .01 seconds. Christine Larkin took third with a time of 26.76, while Megan McNeely was fourth with a 27.33.
The Gaels took the top three spots in the 200 yard IM as Sam Cody (2:19.13), Brittany Freeman (2:20.81) and Sarah Walker (2:25.86) took first, second and third respectively.
Cody picked up another individual win in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:02.97. Ponzo took second with a time of 1:03.85, while Nowakowski's 1:05.27 was good for a third place finish.
Harvey recovered to take first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.68, with Mone just behind in second with a time of 55.37.
Freeman took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.63, while Larkin took the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.82.
In diving, Briana Gongloff posted a score of 213.38 in the one-meter event.
The Gaels travel to Baltimore to take on Marist, Delaware and Loyola in the Loyola Invitational this weekend.
