The Iona College men's swimming and diving team improved its record to 3-1 with a 128-78 win over St. Francis (NY) Wednesday evening.
In the 200 yard medley relay, The Iona team of Joe Przekota, Matt Magura, Seth Tasman and Ed Gronkowski took first with a time of 1:43.94. In second was the team of Raymond Joyal, Chris Yacobacci, Jay Wegimont and Chris Durette with a time of 1:45.53.
In the 1000 yard freestyle, Zach Benoit (10:24.46) and Patrick O'Reilly (10:51.75) took first and second in the event. Michael O'Connor's 11:11.00 placed him fourth.
The Gaels claimed a top three in the next event, the 200 yard freestyle, as Joseph De Leone (1:48.55), Will Kolodgie (1:52.71) and Durette (1:54.39) took 1-2-3 respectively.
Tasman's 22.11 and Cameron Hudson's 22.32 led Iona to a top two finish in the 50 yard freestyle. Graham Weir (23.22) was good for a fourth place finish.
David Gartman and Yacobacci raced tighly for the top spot in the 200 yard IM, but Gartman's 2:04.13 just beat Yacobacci's 2:04.93. Cody Siemeck finished just outside the top three, finishing with a 2:13.95.
St. Francis picked up its first victory of the evening when Leonardo Dupres edged out the Iona swimmers in the 100 yard butterfly. Kolodgie (55.64), O'Reilly (57.29) and Wegimont (59.93) took second through four for the Gaels in the event.
Tasman (48.60), Gronkowski (49.65) and Hudson (49.72) swept the top three in the 100 yard freestyle for the Gaels.
Przekota picked up another win for Iona when he placed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 57.72.
Joyal took took first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.31. Yacobacci and Gartman also swam in the event.
In diving, Daniel Pflager picked up 139.23 points in the one-meter.
The Gaels take part in the Loyola Invitational this weekend in Baltimore, Maryland.
