EUGENE, OR - The Iona College lacrosse team came up just short in its bid to win back-to-back contests with a 15-11 loss to Oregon at Pape' Field. The Gaels are now 1-3 on the season while the Ducks ended a three-game losing streak to pull even at 3-3.
Iona trailed by five at halftime, but used a 5-2 second-half run to rally back to within two goals at 12-10 with 10:47 still to play. While the Gaels continued to create opportunities, the Ducks were helped by great saves made by Oregon goalkeeper Salliebeth Finnegan, and only scored once more in the contest.
Elizabeth Coholan led the Maroon & Gold with three goals in addition to four ground balls and one caused turnover.
Courtney Hocking and
Kylie Gregory followed with two goals apiece. Iona had six different goal scorers in the game as
Casey Scully,
Kasey Hughes,
Brittney Mabus, and
Natalie Finnerty each added one. Scully had a game-high four caused turnovers.
Netminder
Carlee Street made six saves for the Gaels while Finnegan finished with five stops for Oregon.
Iona continues a three-game west coast swing with a 6:00 pm contest at St. Mary's on Mar. 16.
