COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Iona College women's basketball team's season came to an end in the first round of the Postseason WNIT with an 88-53 loss to Maryland at the Comcast Center. The Gaels end the year at 18-14 after earning a postseason bid for the third time in four years.
Sophomore Kristina Ford was the lone Iona player in double figures, reaching a game- and season-high 20 points after blazing the way for the Gaels with 19 in the first half. With four rebounds, Ford was a force all around for the Maroon & Gold, adding six assists and four steals to lead all players in both statistics.
Ford netted the first five points of the contest to give Iona a 5-0 advantage. The Gaels remained in front until the 11:25 mark, leading by as much as six following a Thazina Cook three-pointer two minutes into the game. With Iona in front 15-13, Jackie Nared drained a three for Maryland to put the hosts ahead for a short time.
Samantha Kopp picked up one of Iona's ten trifecta's with 8:32 to play in the first half to give the Gaels their final lead of the night at 21-19. The Terps tied it up on a basket by Lynetta Kizer and pulled away to a 16-point spread by halftime.
Diana Hubbard, Anna McLean, Milica Paligoric, and Catherine Lutz all had six points while McLean grabbed a team-best six boards. For the Terrapins, Kim Rodgers and Tianna Hawkins had 15 points apiece.
