Two free throws from sophomore forward
Sabrina Jeridore gave the Gaels a two-point lead 16 seconds into the game, however it would mark the only time all afternoon Iona held an advantage over the RedHawks.
The RedHawks' lead reached a first half-high of eight points with 6:47 remaining after a jumper by guard Hannah Robertson. Iona was able to tie the game at 37-37 with 3:14 left in the first, but the RedHawks scored five of the next nine points and entered the half with a 42-41 lead.
Entering the second half, Miami jumped out to an 11-point lead on a 9-2 run, making the score 54-43 less than four minutes into the second. The Gaels were able to cut the deficit to nine points, but it would be the closest they would get to the RedHawks the rest of the day.
Senior Rachael Hencke led Miami in scoring with 17 points, while junior Courtney Osborn had 12 assists.
Iona's next game is Saturday, Dec. 10 at Marquette at 6:00 pm.
