NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's swimming and diving team closed out its home slate Monday evening against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Gaels took first in six events but fell to the Mariners by the score of 137-100.
The Gaels picked up their first win in the 1000 yard freestyle as
Justin Grigull took the top spot with a time of 9:52.19.
Nick Kotonias was second in the event, clocking in at 10:10.87 and Zachary Benoit was fifth with a time of 10:26.37.
In the 200 yard freestyle,
Joseph De Leone took second with a time of 1:48.70. Grigull was behind in fourth with a time of 1:51.36 and
Cameron Hudson was sixth with a time of 1:53.05.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Tasman took first with a time of 22.24 with Porrazzo third with a time of 22.35. Weir rounded out the Iona finishers, coming in fifth with a time of 22.91.
Chris Yacobacci took first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 1:58.17. Bacci came in fifth with a time of 2:09.47 and
Raymond Joyal was sixth with a time of 2:13.94.
Elfert took third in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in with a time of 54.74.
Jay Wegimont was fourth with a time of 56.87 and
Michael Wu was sixth with a time of 57.42.
Tasman took second in the 100 yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 49.30. Hudson was fourth with a time of 50.12 and Stiles was fifth with a time of 50.34.
Porrazzo won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 53.61. Kotonias was fifth with a time of 1:01.10 and
Marty Callinan was sixth with a time of 1:03.89.
De Leone picked up a win in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.23.
Patrick O'Reilly was fifth with a time of 5:11.60 and
Michael O'Connor was sixth with a time of 5:22.65.
Yacobacci picked up another win in the 100 yard breaststroke, touching the wall with a time of 59.37, the only competitor to break one minute.
Matthew Stelnicki was second with a time of 1:02.55 and Giovine was fourth with a time of 1:04.06.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the relay of Yacobacci, De Leone, Stelnicki and Hudson took second with a time of 1:31.38. The squad of Kotonias, Stiles, Callinan and Joyal was fourth with a time of 1:34.98 and the team of Carbone,
Denis O'Connor,
Michael O'Connor and
Jay Wegimont was fifth with a time of 1:36.74.
