BUFFALO WILD WING STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Lamont Jones, men's basketball
Iona College men's basketball junior Lamont Jones was named MAAC Player of the Week for his performance in the Gaels' 2-0 week in conference play.
Jones averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in two Iona wins this week over Canisius and Manhattan. He shot 59.5% (22-for-37) from the field, 50.0% (8-for-16) from beyond the arc and 75.0% (9-for-12) from the free throw line. Jones poured in a Hynes Center record 43 points vs. Canisius, matching the second highest single-game scoring total in school history. It was also the highest single-game scoring total in the MAAC this season. Jones had a career-best 16 field goals and seven three pointers in the contest.
Against Manhattan on Sunday, Jones had 18 points and six rebounds in the victory.
Jones is the third Iona performer to earn a MAAC Player of the Week this season joining teammates Mike Glover and Scott Machado. Iona's trio has won seven combined awards. With seven Player of the Week honors last season, the Gaels have earned 14 in less than two seasons under head coach Tim Cluess.
