Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Iona College volleyball team's left side hitting tandem of senior Alicja Pawelec and junior Catrina Warren combined for 27 of the Gaels' 42 kills in a three-set sweet at Saint Peter's. The Maroon & Gold won its fourth straight match and improved to 3-2 in conference play with the win.
Pawelec led the way with 14 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. The senior 1000-kill club member is returning to form with her third straight 10+ kill effort and season-high total in the win. After averaging 4.4 kills per match her first seven appearances, she has posted more than 10 per contest in her last seven. Warren extended her double-digit kill streak to seven matches with 13. She also extended a double-double run to four straight matches with 13 vs. Saint Peter's. Warren leads the Gaels with seven on the season. Sophomore MH McKenzie Humann also stood out with eight kills on 10 attempts with no errors (.800 hitting percentage) and added a team-high three blocks.
Sophomore setter Natalie Ziskin missed her fourth double-double of the season by one dig, posting 34 assists and two blocks.
The Gaels won the match with set scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-13.
Saint Peter's Laura Reinhart had 10 kills to lead the home team. Setter Kaitlyn Sitton had 13 assists while libero Jennifer Pliska posted 12 digs in the loss.
The Gaels will make their annual Western NY swing this weekend when they travel to Canisius Saturday and Niagara Sunday. Both matches are slated for 1:00 pm.
