NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College men's swimming and diving team fell to Seton Hall University, 119-166, Wednesday evening in a home meet held at the Hynes Athletics Center.
In the 200 medley relay, the combination of freshmenn Keegan Boisson-Yates and Joseph Shields and seniors Tyler Elfert and Justin Grigull placed second with a time of 1:38.42.
Boisson-Yates placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.94, while freshman Matthew Rothman finished third with a time of 1:51.27.
The 100 backstroke event saw freshman Collin Purrman place second with a time of 55.84.
In the 100 breastroke, Shields placed second with a time of 1:03.79, as senior Ryan Bacci finished third with a time of 1:05.91.
Senior Nick Kotonias finished third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.49. Grigull picked up the Gaels first victory of the evening with a time of 22.42 in the 50 free.
In the 100 freestyle, Boisson-Yates finished ahead of the pack, placing first with a time of 48.74. Elfert finished close behind with a time of 48.84. Shields took third in the 200 breastroke, finishing with a time of 2:24.21
In the 500 freestyle, Grigull finished first with a time of 4:47.28, while sophomore Scott Martin placed third with a time of 5:02.93.
Elfert finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.85, as Boisson-Yates placed third with a time of 55.12.
The Gaels swept the 200 IM, led by Purrman with a time of 2:00.41. Freshman Bryan Veals took second with a time of 2:04.63, and sophomore Brandon Hadhazy finished third with a time of 2:04.72.
In the evening's final event, Iona swept the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Elfert, Rothman, sophomore Tommy Keefe and Grigull finished first with a time of 1:27.76. The combination of freshman Liam Oberlander, Martin, Veals, and Purrman placed second with a time of 1:33.53. Junior Connor Reid, sophomore Rafael Duran, Shields, and senior Denis O'Connor took third with a time of 1:37.29.
Iona's next event is Dec. 6-7, as it travels to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in the Loyola Invitational.
