STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Gilbert Kirui, Men's Cross Country

Iona College men's cross country freshman Gilbert Kirui led the No. 13 Gaels third place finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.

In his Maroon & Gold debut, Kirui finished second overall to lead the Gaels at Virginia. Kirui finished just 2.5 seconds behind the race winner from Auburn. He completed the 8k course with a time of 23:54.5. Iona finished seven points behind first place Virginia, the No. 13 ranked team in the most recent US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches association NCAA Division I National Coaches Poll. No. 29 Furman was second with 51 points, three points ahead of the Gaels.

The Gaels are in action this Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The 2014 MAAC Championships will be held on Friday, October 31st at Holmdel Park in Holmdel, NJ.
