NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College men's basketball is proud to announce a special celebration on Friday, February 21, at its home contest vs. Rider at the Hynes Center. Forty years ago, to the day, on February 21, 1980, the Gaels completed a historic upset of No. 2 Louisville, 77-60, at Madison Square Garden. In recognition of the anniversary, members of the 1979-1980 team will be honored during the game. All former Iona men's basketball student-athletes from the 70+ years of the program are invited to attend the game and reception following the contest.

"It is an honor to invite back members of the most iconic team in program history in addition to all former men's basketball players who have worn the Maroon & Gold," said Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski. "I look forward to celebrating the historic 1980 victory that has meant so much to our program and honoring all of the men's basketball student-athletes that have represented us so well over the years."

All former players and coaches receive complimentary game tickets and are invited to a postgame reception in the Hynes Center. While reception and game tickets are complimentary, preregistration is required by February 11. Former players and coaches can register online at Iona Connection. Please reach out to Tom Moran, senior associate director of Athletics at (914) 633-2627 or tmoran@iona.edu with any questions or to register directly.
