NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Rider on Wednesday afternoon at Mazzella Field. With the decision, Iona remains unbeaten in four home contests this season, as well as in league play.
MATCH SUMMARY
Iona dominated possession for much of a rain-soaked afternoon in New Rochelle, limiting Rider to just five six total shots. Despite being outshot, the Broncs had arguably the best chance of the afternoon. A loose ball, coupled with Juan Alfaro Monge off his line, led to a shot from Jack McGeechan that rang off of the crossbar.
Earlier in the contest, Monge did well to make an athletic stop on a try from Guillaume Sarrabayrouse, the only shot on goal for the visitors. Sarrabayrouse launched a shot from distance that Monge corralled with both hands as he back-pedaled, then let go of the ball to keep it from falling back into his net, where his momentum took him.
Iona had 14 shots in all on Wednesday afternoon, with five ending up on net. Multiple shots were blocked by defenders and Iona's constant pressure continued to present opportunities for the Gaels, but they would leave with a draw.
