NEW HEAVEN, CT - The Iona University men's and women's swimming and diving team split a pair of non-conference dual meets at the Hutchinson Natatorium on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven today. The Iona women increased their record to 7-1 with a commanding 175-113 win. The Iona men fall to 3-4 with a 153-138 loss.
The Iona women took both the 200 Medley and Freestyle Relays along with 9 other individual wins. The Iona men could only manage 1 relay win and 4 individual races.
"Southern swam very well today on the men's side," commented Coach
Nick Cavataro. "They were aggressive in every race and they were able to close races better today than we did. We have to be more consistent, Cavataro continued.
The Iona women had no problems with SCSU, as
Megan Josephs (100 and 200-Free),
Isabella Nicholson (100-Breast and 500-Free) and for the first time this season
Tristan Urso (200-Breast and 400-IM) all recorded double wins. Luiza DaSilveira (100-Back)
Julia Moser (50-Free) and
Victoria Novinskiy (100-Butterfly) also added wins.
On the men's side
Michael Faughnan (100 and 200-Free) along with
David Son (100-Butterfly) and
Matthew Woyksnar (500-Free) were the Iona winners.
