GAME SUMMARY
Mendoza began his afternoon on the mound, striking out the leadoff batter and went on to throw a scoreless first and second inning. Siena managed to load up the bases in the third and with only one-out, Mendoza picked up his third strikeout but the following batter hit a single up the middle to score two runs and give Siena the early 2-0 lead.Â
Iona got a run back in the home half of the inning after Field scored Bowman from first on an RBI double to left field. Siena countered with an additional two runs in the fourth inning after an RBI single and a run came in via a walk to extend the lead to 4-1.Â
O'Sullivan came in relief and kept the deficit at three runs, retiring seven straight batters at a point, including a strikeout in the sixth inning. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Polinsky began the inning with an infield single and two batters later came around to score on an RBI single from Jennings. Aggressive base-running led to the second run of the inning after Lotito took off for second base and a throwing error allowed him to reach safely and Jennings to come around and score to bring Iona within a run, 4-3.
Siena scored a run in the seventh on an RBI triple from Chris Erickson but Erickson would be stranded at third, after Untracht came out of the bullpen and got an inning ending groundout. Field started the bottom of the inning with his MAAC leading sixth triple and that setup
Chris Mariani's RBI single to score Field and cut the deficit once again to one run. Untracht worked a scoreless eighth inning, picking up two pop-ups and an inning ending strikeout to keep the score at 5-4.
The eighth inning rally started with one-out as Jennings singled and then quickly stole second  to put himself in scoring position. Lotito delivered the game tying hit on an RBI single through the right side, scoring Jennings from second. Keeping the line moving, Bowman launched the go-ahead hit with a triple to deep right center field, giving the Maroon & Gold their first lead of the afternoon. Later in the inning, Field provided some insurance with an RBI single through the left side to give the Gaels a 7-5 lead after eight innings of play.
Pitching for the second straight day, Bated retired the side in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season and secure Iona's 7-5 senior day victory.
