ALLENTOWN, PA - The Iona University men's and women's rowing teams opened their 2024 spring campaign Saturday following back-to-back weekend cancellations due to weather. The Gaels competed in a quad regatta with host Lehigh, Fairfield, and Loyola Maryland on Lake Nockamixon. The Maroon & Gold's varsity four boat was the top performer with a first place finish.

MEN'S VARISTY 4

Iona's varsity four of graduate Sergey Karpov, freshman Henry Detmers, senior Zachary Morocho and freshman Alejandro Maya coxed by senior Hayden Skigen topped three other boats with their time of 7:44.8. The Stags were second in 8:02.3.

MEN'S VARSITY 8

Freshman Johanna Moran served as coxswain for sophomore Jack Allen, junior Ethan Megal, sophomore Andrew Catinella, junior Finn Bolger, sophomore Abraham Ocampo, junior Daniel Vanadia, and seniors Thomas Koetzner and Oliver Sanchez in a third place performance in the V8 race. The Gaels 6:45.6 time was behind Loyola and Lehigh and ahead of Fairfield.

WOMEN'S VARSITY 4

The Iona women's V4 and V8 boats both finished third. The V4 boat featured junior Anna Meehan, sophomore Lorelei Teddy, freshmen Amelia Rosario and Carly Schofield and junior coxswain Ciana Quintana.

WOMEN'S VARSITY 8

The Maroon & Gold's women's V8 boat of junior coxswain Cara Donnelly, classmates Layne McDonald, Grace Barber, Kaeli Dean and Emma Ibbetson, sophomores Mackenna Agosti and Clare Robertsen, senior Abigail Kokiadis and junior Grace Mutze raced twice and vastly improved on the second time with a 7:49.9 as the afternoon event found much fairer weather conditions compared to the extreme headwind in the morning session.
