NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona University baseball head coach
Conor Burke announced the promotion of
Mike Scimanico to Associate Head Coach.
"Mike has been an integral part of the program since we stepped on campus together," said Burke. "He has made himself invaluable within the team, department and University. His dedication to the pitching staff and team can't be missed; and his ability to leave a positive impression on those who meet him separates him from the crowd. I can't be more grateful for Mike's assistance, and he is incredibly deserving of this role. He fights the good fight day in and out."
Scimanico enters his fourth season with the Maroon & Gold in 2024-25. He has served as the team's pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. Last season, on the Gaels pitching staff,
Eric Gialloreto led the MAAC with a program single-season record 33 appearances out of the bullpen and
Andrelys Payamps ranked fourth in the MAAC in strikeouts.
As Iona's recruiting coordinator he has brought in three MAAC All-Rookie team honorees, one in each of the last three seasons.
Josiah Ragsdale was a part of the staff's second class and last season became the first All-MAAC First Team performer for the Gaels since 2014.
Prior to Iona, Scimanico spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Seton Hall. He started his coaching career at his alma mater, Shenandoah University as pitching coach for three seasons. The Hornets won to conference tournament championships, made three regional appearances and one super regional appearance during his tenure on the Hornets staff.
A native of Dumont, NJ, Scimanico is a graduate of St. Joseph's Regional High School. He was a standout pitcher at Shenendoah. He was a three-time All-ODAC selection, two-time all-state selection and D3Baseball.com All-American. As a senior he averaged 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings with a 2.35 ERA in 84.1 innings of work.
