EDISON, NJ— After a two-win week of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, the Iona University women's soccer team garnered a pair of weekly awards as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Sophomore
Dolene Smith earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and first-year
Mya Jackson was named MAAC Rookie of the Week.
DOLENE SMITH
Smith paced the and conference scorers with seven points in the two-win week of league action. She registered three goals and one assist in the six-point week for the Gaels. The Enfield, CT native tallied her first career hat trick in Iona's 4-0 win at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. She recorded two first half goals before capping the scoring with 46 seconds remaining for the third hat trick by a MAAC goal scorer this season. Smith followed that up with the primary assist on Saturday, a 41
st minute goal to give the Gaels a 1-0 victory over Niagara at home.
MYA JACKSON
Jackson had a stellar week of play at forward, helping the team pick up a pivotal six points in the league standings. She registered four points on two assists and one goal in the pair of wins for the Maroon & Gold. The Delran, NJ native opened the week, assisting Iona's second and final tally in the 4-0 victory at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. She capped the week with a 41
st minute goal in the eventual 1-0 home win over Niagara on Saturday. It was Jackson's second game winning goal of the season for the Gaels.
