NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The number six nationally ranked Iona University acrobatics and tumbling team hosted number two Oregon at the Hynes Athletics Center Friday night. In their final regular season game of the season, the Gaels remained close with the Ducks, losing in two separate events by only 0.35 points. The visitors would go on to take the victory by a score of 270.630-257.270.
COMPULSORY
The Gaels began senior day with a strong showing in the compulsory events, recording 9.55 points in both the pyramid and toss heats. Oregon responded, however, and narrowly handed the Gaels a 37.50-37.15 defeat in the first stanza.
ACRO
The Maroon & Gold started the Acro event earning 9.00 points out of a 9.90 starting value, but ultimately dropped the heat by a score of 28.35-26.20.
PYRAMID
To close out the first half, Iona earned 9.30 and 9.50 scores in the first and third heats, respectively. The visitors posted a 28.75 in the event, besting Iona by 0.90 points. The two sides went into the 15-minute pause with the Gaels down by a score of 94.60 to 91.20.
TOSS
The Gaels earned their second-highest points total of the season in heat three of the toss event, taking 9.45 out of a possible 10.00 points. For the second time in the dual meet however, the Ducks would win by just 0.35 points, the Gaels narrowly taking the event loss by a score of 28.10-27.75.
TUMBLING
Portia Dryden once again led the Gaels in the open pass, taking home 9.700 points out of a possible 10.000.
Ty Upton earned a 9.500 in her aerial pass heat, but the Gaels would drop the tumbling event to Oregon by a score of 55.750-53.250.
TEAM EVENT
Iona fell to the Ducks in the team event by a score of 92.18-85.17.
OVERALL
The Gaels took home 257.270 points in their final regular season dual meet of the year, landing 33.09 points below their 290.460-point maximum. Oregon earned all but 27.86 points of their 298.490 maximum for a 270.630-point total.
