AUSTIN, TX - The College Sports Communicators released the 2024-25 Academic All-America Men's Swimming & Diving teams for all NCAA and NAIA divisions, after being named to the All-District list
Michael Faughnan became the first Gael in program history to receive the individual honors, finding himself on the second team. In the class room Faughnan is a accounting major and has a career GPA of 3.88.
Faughnan joins student athletes from all over the country including schools; UMass, Texas, Stanford, Utah, Indiana, Kentucky, and Cal. He is one of four student-athletes between the first and second team that hails from a school outside of the power five conferences.
In the pool this year Faughnan led the Gaels to a strong season breaking multiple records individually along with being part of record breaking relay teams, he became the first Gael in the Maroon & Gold to win not one but two individual national titles. He led the Gaels to a fourth place finish at the MAAC Championships, a first place finish at the winter ECAC Championships, and a 12th place finish at the 2025 ECAC Open Championships. Faughnan wraps up his Iona career as one of, if not the best, in program history.
