Acrobatics & Tumbling Recommended for NCAA Championship Status

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics announced Thursday evening that it had voted to recommend that all three divisions sponsor legislation to establish a National Collegiate Championship in acrobatics and tumbling. The recommendation by the committee is contingent on sponsorship and participation numbers from the 2025 season. With the ever-growing nature of the sport, the inaugural National Collegiate Championship could take place as early as 2027.

Being among at least 48 other schools that had reported they were taking part in and sponsoring the sport, Iona acrobatics & tumbling has made waves in their first two seasons in program history. Head Coach Jacquie Eshleman and crew earned their first appearance in the NCATA Championships in April and competed in five event finals. The Maroon & Gold posted a 3-4 record in their 2025 season.

The Timeline

  • Each division is expected to review the recommendation and sponsor a proposal by its respective 2025-26 legislative cycle deadline.
  • If sponsored, the divisions are expected to vote on the proposals during the 2026 NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C.
  • The recommendation also includes establishing an NCAA Acrobatics and Tumbling Committee, which would begin its work in January 2026, to allow time to prepare for a championship in spring 2027.
  • If adopted on that timeline, the first acrobatics and tumbling championship would be held in spring 2027.
