WETHERSFIELD, CT — The Iona University men's golf team delivered an outstanding performance at Wethersfield Country Club this week, finishing second out of 15 teams with a combined score of 571 (+1). The Gaels opened the 36-hole event with a even par 284 on Monday, followed by a 287 (+3) on Tuesday to secure their highest team finish of the fall season thus far.
Leading the charge was Senior
Connor Henderson, who fired rounds of 73 and 68 to finish at 141 (-1) overall. Henderson's second-round 68 was highlighted by steady play on both sides of the course, including birdies on holes 2, 3, 9, and 14.
Sophomore
Freddie Tucker delivered another standout performance in his young collegiate career, carding a team-best 68 (-3) in round one. He followed that up with a 75 to finish at 143 (+1). Freshman
Jennings Oelke also turned in a strong performance, matching Henderson's 141 total with rounds of 69 and 72, including a front-nine 32 on day one that featured birdies on holes 3, 6, and 8.
Junior
Sahir Balyan posted a round one score of 76 and then bounced back nicely in round two with a 72. further contributing to the Gaels' strong team total. Senior
Sean Richards, who shot rounds of 74 and 76, provided key support and depth throughout the event.
