MAAC Announces 2026 Men’s Golf Major Award Winners

Iona’s Oelke Named Rookie of the Year, Burke Earns Coach of the Year Honors

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced its 2026 Men's Golf major award winners, highlighting outstanding performances from across the league this season. Iona University's Jennings Oelke has been named MAAC Rookie of the Year, while head coach Sean Burke earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors following a historic campaign for the Gaels.

Oelke made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season, emerging as one of the conference's top competitors. The freshman consistently delivered strong performances throughout the year, positioning himself among the MAAC's elite and playing a key role in Iona's championship success. 

He was named the MAAC Rookie of the week three times this year and earned All-MAAC second team honors. At the 2026 MAAC Championship the freshman fired in a one-over par for the 54 hotels finishing in a tie for 6th place. 

Burke guided the Gaels to one of the most successful seasons in program history, culminating in the program's eighth MAAC Championship title. Under his leadership, Iona demonstrated consistency, depth, and resilience, ultimately securing the conference crown and continuing its tradition as one of the league's premier programs. During the regular spring season Burke had the Gaels dialed with four top four finishes, including a win at the Battle At Rum Pointe. 

The Gaels captured the 2026 MAAC Men's Golf Championship with a composed and balanced team effort, marking their eighth title in program history. The victory secured Iona's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

Iona will learn its NCAA Regional placement later today, with the selection show scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and streamed live on Golf Channel.
