NEW YORK, NY – The Iona University men's indoor track and field team competed Friday night at the Ramapo Season Opener at the Armory Track & Field Center. It was the second meet of the season for the Gaels and their first competition of the 2026 calendar year, highlighted by strong performances across sprints, distance, and field events.
400-METER RUN
Freshman
Jaylen Mozone led the way for Iona in the 400-meter run, finishing second with a time of 49.63. Freshman
James Roche placed 16th in 52.54, while sophomore
Jack Bretthauer crossed the line 21st in 53.13.
4X400-METER RELAY
Iona entered two quartets in the 4x400-meter relay. The freshman team of
Wesner Archelus,
James Roche,
Alex Hannon, and
Jaylen Mozone finished fifth with a time of 3:26.10. A second team consisting of sophomore
Jack Bretthauer, junior
Derrick Touba, sophomore
Joe Surozenski, and senior
Evan Gralitzer placed 15th in 3:43.01.
TRIPLE JUMP
Junior
Jiles Addison represented the Gaels in the triple jump, earning a fifth-place finish with a leap of 14.06 meters.
3000-METER RUN
Iona's distance squad was competitive in the 3000 meters as well. Junior
Christian Audrin finished sixth in 8:51.02, while sophomore
Jack Novelli placed ninth at 8:58.35.
60-METER HURDLES
Freshman
Wesner Archelus ran a strong race in the 60-meter hurdles, advancing from prelims into the finals. He ran 8.84 in the prelims and improved to 8.60 to finish sixth overall.
