LEXINGTON, KY – Junior Aiden Coles and freshman Baptiste Cartieaux represented the Iona University men's outdoor track team Friday at the NCAA East First Rounds at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
 

1500-METER QUARTERFINAL

Coles concluded his 2025-26 campaign in the 1500-meter run quarterfinal, placing 24th overall with a time of 3:48.47. The junior finished 12th in the opening heat. Virginia's Gary Martin posted the fastest time in the first heat at 3:42.48, while Michigan's Trent McFarland recorded the top overall time of the quarterfinal round at 3:38.04 in the second heat. The top five finishers in each heat, along with the next two fastest times overall, advanced to the NCAA semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.
 

3000-METER STEEPLECHASE SEMIFINAL

Cartieaux wrapped up his freshman season in the 3000-meter steeplechase semifinal, finishing 22nd overall in 8:49.65. He placed eighth in the third heat, which was won by Princeton's Brian Boler in 8:31.28. Tulane's Silas Kiptanui recorded the fastest time of the semifinal round at 8:18.09. Cartieaux's performance marked the second-fastest steeplechase time of his season, trailing only his 8:44.71 effort at the Raleigh Relays that secured his NCAA East First Round qualification. The top three finishers in each heat and the next three fastest times advanced to the national final in Eugene.

UP NEXT

The men's team completed action for the 2025-26 campaign. Iona concludes competition at the NCAA East First Rounds on Saturday with the women's team as junior Taylor Gunton returns to the track for the 5,000-meter semifinal at 8:10 p.m.
