STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Iona University men's indoor track & field team competed Friday at the 2026 New York Metropolitan Championships, hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, turning in a full slate of performances across sprints, middle distance, distance, and relays.
3,000-METER RUN
Freshman
Julian Laznik-Moraghan placed seventh in a competitive 3,000-meter field, crossing the line in 9:09.44. The race marked Laznik-Moraghan's second indoor meet of the season and his first indoor 3,000-meter run representing the Gaels.
200-METER DASH
Iona lined up seven runners in the 200 meters, led by freshman
Joshua Aceto, who finished seventh with a time of 22.37 in his second indoor meet of the season and first indoor 200-meter race for the Gaels. Freshman
Jaylen Mozone followed closely in ninth at 22.41, while junior
Cameron Washington placed 22nd with a time of 22.68. Freshman
James Roche clocked 23.46 for 47th, junior
Derrick Touba finished 49th in 23.50, and freshman
Logan Landry rounded out the group in 51st at 23.51.
1,000-METER RUN
Sophomore
Caudell Cajuste made his 2025-26 indoor debut with an eighth-place finish in the 1,000 meters, recording a time of 2:43.38.
5,000-METER RUN
Junior
Jack O'Keefe represented the Gaels in the 5,000 meters, placing 11th overall with a time of 15:49.71.
400-METER RUN
Freshman
Alex Hannon led the Iona contingent in the 400 meters, finishing 13th in 50.85. Sophomore
Dylan Donegan followed in 20th with a time of 51.92, while sophomore
Joe Surozenski placed 25th at 53.51.
500-METER RUN
Freshman
James Roche returned to the track for the 500 meters, earning a 19th-place finish with a time of 1:10.90.
4 X 200-METER RELAY
The relay quartet of
Jiles Addison,
Dylan Donegan,
Wesner Archelus, and
Cameron Washington delivered one of the top performances of the meet for Iona, finishing fourth overall with a combined time of 1:30.73.

The Gaels will compete in two events next weekend. Iona heads to the Scarlet Knights Open, hosted by Rutgers at the Armory Track & Field Center in Harlem on Friday, February 6, before traveling to the 2026 IC4A Championships at the BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday and Sunday, February 7-8.
