EDISON, NJ – Iona University women's indoor track freshman
Alex Schulz delivered a standout performance on Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, cementing her place among the MAAC's top performers with a breakthrough effort in the 3,000-meter run.
Schulz crossed the line in 9:25.41 at the BU Track & Tennis Center, finishing 44th overall in one of the nation's premier midseason meets. Her time stands as the eighth-fastest all-time performance in program history and places her less than a second shy of the freshman record of 9:24.51 set by former Olympian Maya Rehberg in 2014.
The mark is the second-fastest 3,000-meter time in the MAAC this season, trailing only teammate
Tayla Gunton from the same race. Schulz also currently ranks 15th in the Northeast region, underscoring the significance of her performance on the regional stage.
Competing against a deep national field, Schulz continued her strong debut campaign by etching her name into the Iona record book and positioning herself as one of the conference's premier distance runners.
The Gaels return to action this weekend at the 2026 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory in New York City. The event can be viewed live on ESPN+.
