NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's track and field team turned in a dominant opening day in distance events Saturday at the 2026 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center, highlighted by multiple gold medal performances and a strong group advancing to Sunday's finals.
5,000-METER RUN
Iona controlled the 5,000-meter run from the outset, earning both gold and silver in the championship race.
Senior
Matt Rankin claimed gold in 14:12.75 to capture the MAAC title, while junior
Baptiste Cartieaux followed closely for silver in 14:13.67. Freshman
Sean Lawton added a sixth place finish in 14:52.00, and freshman
Jackson Jamison crossed seventh in 14:53.23 to round out a strong team showing.

Duncan Robinson delivered another gold medal performance for the Maroon & Gold, winning the distance medley relay in 10:03.77.
MILE RUN PRELIM
Three Gaels moved on to the mile final after strong preliminary efforts.

Tristan Coles posted the top overall time at 4:16.00 to lead the field. Junior
Christian Audrin finished fifth in 4:22.38, and freshman
Igor Ouwerkerk secured a spot in the final with a ninth place finish in 4:22.95. Sophomore
Jack Novelli placed 11th in 4:24.94.
800-METER RUN PRELIM
Junior
Aiden Coles led Iona in the 800-meter preliminaries, clocking 1:53.71 to finish first overall. Freshman
Reiss Marshall advanced with a sixth place time of 1:53.97. Freshman
Carter Flowers placed 10th in 1:55.70, sophomore
Caudell Cajuste finished 18th in 2:00.66 and junior
Jack O'Keefe placed 32nd in 2:10.33.
400-METER RUN PRELIM

Jaylen Mozone earned a berth in the final with a fifth place time of 48.66. Freshman
Alex Hannon finished 26th in 50.84, sophomore
Jack Bretthauer placed 29th in 52.27, senior
Evan Gralitzer took 32nd in 53.00 and freshman
James Roche crossed 34th in 53.23.
