NEW YORK, NY - The Iona University men's track and field team turned in a strong all-around performance Sunday at the 2026 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, NY, finishing third overall with 101 team points. Sacred Heart captured the team title with 114 points, followed by Mount St. Mary's with 108, while Rider (84.5) and Saint Peter's (49) rounded out the top five.
Senior
Matt Rankin was named the meet's Most Outstanding Track Performer and Most Valuable Performer, highlighted by his gold-medal performance in the 3,000 meters. Competing in his final MAAC Championship, Rankin concluded his career with six gold medals, three silver and two bronze, becoming the fourth men's performer under Director of XC/Track and Field
Joe Pienta to reach double-digit career MAAC medals. He joined an elite group that includes Gael legends: Ehab El-Sandali, Jadyn Tabois and Damien Dilcher.
3,000-METER RUN
Iona dominated the 3,000-meter run with a sweep of the podium positions. Rankin led the charge, crossing first in 8:13.72 to secure gold and cap his indoor conference career in commanding fashion. Junior
Baptiste Cartieaux followed closely in 8:15.95 to earn silver, while junior
Tristan Coles claimed bronze in 8:17.90 to complete the top three finish. Freshmen
Sean Lawton and
Jackson Jamison added depth to the scoring effort, finishing seventh in 8:29.95 and 10th in 8:39.06, respectively.
Cartieaux earned his second MAAC silver in his first season with Iona after finishing second in the 2025 Cross Country event. Coles picked up his second medal of the day following a gold in the mile to open the event.
MILE RUN
Coles opened the Sunday event schedule and delivered a standout performance, capturing gold in the mile with a winning time of 4:09.28. Freshman
Igor Ouwerkerk narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in 4:13.91, while junior
Christian Audrin added points with an eighth place showing in 4:20.17.
With two medals at the event, Coles holds nine career MAAC medals with three apiece in gold, silver, and bronze.
TRIPLE JUMP
Junior
Jiles Addison provided a pivotal moment in the field events, soaring 14.50 meters to claim gold in the triple jump. His victory supplied crucial team points and marked the first gold medal for the program in the field under Coach Pienta, complementing the dominant distance performances on the track.
800-METER RUN
In a tightly contested 800-meter final, junior
Aiden Coles and freshman
Reiss Marshall delivered back-to-back top five finishes. Coles placed fourth in 1:52.34, just ahead of Marshall's fifth-place effort in 1:52.46, as both runners contributed valuable points in the middle-distance race.
200-METER DASH
Freshman
Joshua Aceto continued his strong debut championship performance with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 22.40 to add to the team's sprint totals.
400-METER RUN
Freshman
Jaylen Mozone posted a seventh-place time of 48.73 in the 400 meters, securing additional points in a deep and competitive field.
4X400-METER RELAY

Alex Hannon closed the championship with an eighth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, recording a time of 3:24.97.
