STONY BROOK, NY - The Iona University men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of the 2026 season at the Snowflake Classic on Saturday at University Track in Stony Brook, New York, turning in a collection of performances across sprints, distance events, relays, and field competition.
WOMEN'S EVENTS
800-METER RUN
Freshman
Kiera Atkinson delivered a strong showing in the 800-meter run, placing second overall with a time of 2:19.32.
400-METER RUN
Iona posted a trio of top ten finishes in the 400-meter run, led by senior
Nadine Jefremow's runner-up time of 1:00.36. Freshman
Arabella Dickfos followed closely in third at 1:00.41, while freshman
Alexa Hermanns (1:07.25) and freshman
Kaleigh Murphy (1:08.95) placed seventh and ninth, respectively.
4X200-METER RELAY
The relay team of
Alexa Hermanns,
Nadine Jefremow,
Kaleigh Murphy, and
Sofia Lumbreras combined for a first-place finish, clocking in at 1:47.91 to lead the field.
SHOT PUT
Junior
Tyaja Thomas paced the Gaels in the field events with a second-place finish in the shot put, recording a throw of 9.84 meters.
MILE RUN
In the mile, freshman Gabby Carroll led Iona with a fifth-place finish in 5:24.47, while junior
Alexa Doe added an eighth-place performance in 5:40.51.
3,000-METER RUN
The Gaels saw a trio of freshmen compete in the 3,000-meter run, with
Kayleigh Atkinson placing sixth in 10:26.24.
Sarah Wisnieski followed in eighth at 10:55.93, and
Alyssa Dovico finished 11th in 11:19.11.
MEN'S EVENTS
400-METER RUN
The Gaels turned in a deep performance in the 400-meter run, placing six runners inside the top ten. Sophomore
Dylan Donegan led the way with a second-place finish in 51.11, followed by sophomore
Jack Bretthauer in third at 51.62. Freshman
Joe Surozenski (5th, 52.93), freshman
James Roche (7th, 53.54), junior
Cameron Washington (8th, 53.78), and freshman
Logan Landry (10th, 56.20) rounded out the effort.
4X100-METER RELAY
The quartet of senior
Jiles Addison, sophomore
Dylan Donegan, junior
Derrick Touba, and junior
Cameron Washington raced to a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 42.95.
4X200-METER RELAY
Iona claimed the top two spots in the 4x200-meter relay. The team of
Logan Landry,
James Roche,
Jack Bretthauer, and
Evan Gralitzer earned the victory in 1:31.87, while
Jiles Addison,
Derrick Touba,
Alex Hannon, and
Joe Surozenski followed in second with a time of 1:33.62.
MILE RUN
Freshman
Julian Laznik-Moraghan led the Gaels in the mile with a fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 4:45.27.
3,000-METER RUN
In the 3,000-meter run, freshman
Evan Bureau paced Iona with a fourth-place finish in 8:48.30. Junior
Christian Audrin placed fifth in 9:04.86, while junior
Jack O'Keefe (7th, 9:22.39) and sophomore
Jack Novelli (9th, 9:38.23) also recorded top ten finishes.
