Fall 2004 Greetings from the Mulcahy Center! Iona College is buzzing with activity as we start the 2004-05 school year. Even though it is still the first month of school, the Gaels have already seen great accomplishments this year. The women's soccer team recently ended a five-game home unbeaten streak, including four straight wins and two consecutive shutouts! The men's cross country team is currently ranked No. 3 according to the latest NCAA Division I national poll. The Gaels recently hosted and won its third consecutive home meet, the Br. Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. In my first few weeks on the job, I have had the pleasure to meet with each of our coaches and many of our student-athletes and explain the short and long-term goals of our Athletic Department. Our student-athlete centered vision is straightforward. Our athletic department must be a source of pride for our community, alumni, and fans. We must continue to help our student-athletes in achieving excellence both in the classroom and on the field. Each day we are moving closer to achieving our goals and I want to thank those that have reached out to help us in reaching our mission. So many have stepped up to increase their support and giving and we truly appreciate it. This year, in order to kick off our men's and women's basketball seasons, we will be hosting a Midnight Madness celebration on Friday, October 15. Mulcahy Madness is a way to introduce our fans and new resident students to our basketball teams. The event will begin at 10:30 p.m. and at Midnight the players will be introduced. It should be an exciting night with plenty of activities and promotional give-a-ways and I encourage anyone who can attend to do so. The following day, on Saturday October 16, we will be hosting our third annual Clam Slam to Celebrate Iona Athletics, in the Mulcahy Center. This event features a live band, plenty of food, and much camaraderie amongst Iona alumni. The past two years have been fantastic and this year promises to deliver the same. I encourage all to attend and for further details please contact Ryan Satalin at (914) 633-2071 or by email at rsatalin@iona.edu. Thank you for your continued support and please come out and support your Gaels whenever you can! Go Gaels!
