Hamden, CT - Despite a commanding 41-27 advantage in shots taken, the Iona College lacrosse team dropped its second game of the young season with a 16-9 loss at Quinnipiac. The Bobcats are now 1-0 after winning their opener while the Gaels fell to 0-2.
Iona's shooting advantage was cancelled out by the host team's 19-4 edge in saves. Tiffany Manzi had a game-high four goals for Quinnipiac.
Senior Jaclyn O'Leary scored her first goal of the year in the 12th minute at a time when the Gaels found themselves in a 6-0 hole. O'Leary found the back of the net twice more in the contest to lead the squad with three goals. She was followed by Christie Godlewski and Lisa Baron who had two goals apiece. Baron was a threat all around, adding five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Also scoring once each for Iona were Kelly Hughes and Katie Cavanaugh.
The Gaels are still looking for their first win of 2008, which could come when they play next at Binghamton on March 2.
