Buffalo, NY - Canisius took a doubleheader from the Iona College baseball team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Demske Sports Complex this afternoon. The Golden Griffins (17-2, 1-0 MAAC) used a late rally in the opener to take the 5-1 decision and scored in every inning in an 8-0 defeat of the Gaels (1-17, 1-3 MAAC) in the night cap.
Canisius opened the scoring in game one scoring a run off senior RHP
Shane Sveda in the bottom of the second inning. The Maroon & Gold evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh, on sophomore RF
Chris Leahy's run scoring single.
The Golden Griffins torched Iona's bullpen for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.

Michael Sevilla with the team's five hits. Salerno stole his team leading fourth base of the season.
Sveda had another solid effort on the hill for the Gaels, tossing six innings scattering six hits while allowing the lone run. Freshman RHP
Matthew Casino (0-1) took the loss in relief.
After Iona tallied a run in the top of the first inning, Canisius answered with eight unanswered in the 8-1 game two win. Abbatiello singled home Salerno - who drew a lead off walk - from second base for Iona's lone run.
Canisius scored in all six innings it batted, one in each and three in the bottom of the second.
Leahy and Abbatiello collected two hits a piece for the Gaels.

Kevin Carmody (0-4) took the loss allowing five earned runs in six innings pitched.
The Gaels and Griffs complete the series tomorrow in Buffalo in a game slated to begin at noon.
