New Rochelle, NY - In a game that saw the score tied five times, it took a 3-0 run in the second half for Canisius to defeat the Iona College women's lacrosse team.  The loss was the second straight for the Gaels (6-10, 2-3 MAAC) while the Griffs (8-8, 3-2 MAAC) won their second in a row.  Both teams are still vying for a spot in the 2008 MAAC Championship which will be held in New Rochelle for the third consecutive year.

Junior Jillian Beck led the Maroon & Gold with a season-high three goals.  Senior Christie Godlewski and freshman Elizabeth Coholan had two points each, Godlewski with two goals and Coholan assisting twice.  Jaclyn O'Leary, Kasey Hughes, and Kelly Hughes also scored for the Gaels, while Rachel O'Leary and Charlotte Tietjen both picked up an assist.

After giving up two early goals, Iona found the back of the net three straight times to take a 3-2 lead with 13:29 to go in the first half.  Canisius scored once more in the period to bring the game to halftime tied at 3.

The Gaels scored two of the first three second half goals and held a one point lead at 5-4 with 22:05 on the clock.  The visitors then combined for three consecutive tallies to pull ahead by two.  At the 11:03 mark, Beck netted a pass from Coholan and O'Leary scored on a free position shot as Iona evened the score at 7-7 with just under ten minutes left to play.  Canisius scored three of the final four goals and departed with the 10-8 victory.

The Gaels bettered the Golden Griffins 11-9 in draw controls and 15-17 in turnovers.  Colleen Magri was in goal for Iona and made eight saves.

The team will close out the regular season on Sunday when it hosts Niagara on Senior Day at Mazzella Field.
