BROOKLYN, NY - Scoring ten goals in each half, the Iona College women's lacrosse team broke a five-game losing streak with a 20-13 win over Long Island on the road.  The Gaels end their non-conference slate on a high note and take a 2-6 record into Friday's MAAC opener against Fairfield.

Iona opened a 2-0 lead with a pair of unassisted goals by Caitlyn Collins in the first two minutes.  The Blackbirds came back quickly with three goals of their own, two from free position, to take a brief one-goal lead by the 24:03 mark.

The Maroon & Gold scored four of the next five goals to pull ahead 6-4 with 19:51 left in the first half.  After giving up three straight to fall behind 7-6, Elizabeth Coholan and Christie Godlewski notched two goals each over the final 7:31 to help Iona to a 10-8 advantage at halftime.

Collins scored her third goal of the day early in the second half as the Gaels increased their lead to three. Long Island's Sara LaNoir found the back of the net on a free position shot at the 25:22 mark to make the score 11-9.  Iona then went on an 8-0 run sparked by a goal from Courtney Hocking and rounded off with a Lisa Baron goal, assisted by Jillian Beck.  LIU scored four of the contest's final four goals but still trailed by seven at the horn.

Collins led Iona with six points on five goals and an assist, while Godlewski also finished with five goals.  Eight different Gaels found the back of the net and three recorded assists in the victory.  Goalkeeper Colleen Magri made three first half saves to earn the win.  Carlee Street took over at the start of the second half and picked up five saves.  Iona led 43-29 in shots, 25-18 in ground balls, and 19-16 in draw controls while causing 11 of Long Island's 24 turnovers.

The Gaels take on the Stags at Mazzella Field at 3:00 pm on Mar. 27.
