NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team lost to Boston College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 19-8. The Gaels were led on offense by sophomore Elizabeth Coholan and freshman Casey Scully. Each finished the game with two goals. Senior Christie Godlewski and sophomore Caitlyn Collins each had two points on a goal and an assist.
Boston College began the contest by scoring four consecutive goals. Scully put Iona on the board for the first time with an unassisted goal at 16:46. Follwoing five more Eagles scores, including the second of the day for Jenna McCabe, Coholan scored her first goal with 5:55 remaining. Boston College scored two more times before Coholan found the net once again with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Iona went into the half trailing 11-3.
The Eagles scored the first two goals of the second half. Scully netted her second tally and the Gaels were on their way to scoring four of the game's next six goals. Boston College was able to stop the offensive momentum by Iona with four goals in the last 11:12 of the contest. Kerry Thompson found the net in the last minute for Iona. For the contest, Iona was outshot 42-26.
Senior Colleen Magri started in goal for the Gaels and recorded 12 saves. Senior Lisa Baron recorded five draw controls for the Maroon & Gold and caused two turnovers. Freshman Kelsey Sickles recorded two draw controls for Iona.
Iona returns to Mazzella Field this Friday for a showdown with Quinnipiac. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
