NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team posted its second straight victory with a convincing 20-10 win over Bryant in non-conference action at Mazzella Field. Senior
Christie Godlewski broke out with a season-high eight points on three goals and five assists to lead all players.
The Gaels had seven players record multiple points with
Casey Scully,
Lisa Baron, and
Kerry Thompson each netting four goals.
Kasey Hughes and
Elizabeth Coholan each had two while
Jillian Beck added one.
Tied at 1-1 just over two and a half minutes into the contest, Iona went on a 6-0 streak to pull ahead 7-1 at the 15:45 mark. The Bulldogs ended the run with a goal by Mary Green, making the score 7-2 and kicking off a 13-minute scoreless drought for both sides. The Gaels added one more in the first half as Coholan found the back of the net off a pass from Beck with 45 seconds to go before halftime.
The Maroon & Gold remained hot to begin the second half, scoring seven of eight goals over the first 9:30. Bryant then answered with three straight tallies, including two by Allison Faiola to close the gap to 15-6 with 14:48 on the clock. Baron and Godlewski combined for four of Iona's last five goals en route to the 20-10 final.
The Gaels outshot the Bulldogs 43-31 in the match and led 20-12 in draw controls. Goalkeeper
Colleen Magri played a complete game and made 12 saves to pick up the win. For Bryant, Lauren Fillippone and Jessica Bolton combined for nine saves on Iona's 29 shots on goal.
The squad closes out the season on April 19, hosting MAAC oponent Siena at 1:00 pm.
