NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team closed its 2009 season with an 18-7 victory over Siena at Mazzella Field, finishing with a record of 5-10 overall and 2-4 in MAAC play. Prior to the opening draw, the Gaels recognized their five graduating seniors with a senior day celebration.
Christie Godlewski matched her season-best performance with her second straight eight-point game on two goals and six assists to lead Iona. Freshman Casey Scully notched a career high five goals in the season finale followed by three each from Elizabeth Coholan, Kerry Thompson, and Caitlyn Collins. Jillian Beck rounded out Iona's goal-scorers with one in the second half in addition to one assist.
Goalkeeper Colleen Magri earned the win and made 11 saves in the contest. Carlee Street came on to guard the net for just over four minutes and added two saves.
The squad ends the season in fifth place in the MAAC lacrosse standings, just one spot shy of advancing to the conference tournament in head coach Michelle Mason's first year.
