PEACOCKS TOP GAELS IN FINALE

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College baseball team dropped the series finale with Saint Peter's 12-1 in MAAC action at Salesian Field.  Rookie 3B Matthew Simone reached base in all four plate appearances with three hits and a walk.

Trailing 6-0 in the seventh, junior CF Chris Leahy plated the Gaels lone on an RBI fielder's choice.  Rookie RF Colin Lyall scored on the play.

Simone kept up his hot hitting stroke of late with his first three-hit effort of the season.  He's hit safely in five straight games and six of the last seven while batting .393 over the stretch.  Senior C  Andrew Wernicki also recorded multiple hits with two singles.  His hitting streak extended to an Iona season-best nine straight games including five games with multiple hits.   It also bested his previous career-best eight game streak set as a sophomore in 2007.

The Gaels embark on a five-game road trip with beginning with a mid-week non-conference tilt at Wagner on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
