NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona College lacrosse team earned a convincing 18-7 win over Long Island in non-conference action at Mazzella Field to pick up its first victory of the season. The Gaels (1-2) led from start to finish and opened the contest with a seven-goal run over the first 16:11.
Junior attacker
Caitlyn Collins led Iona with eight points in the victory, equaling the second-highest single game total in the program's history. Collins scored a pair of goals and recorded a single game record-tying six assists. Junior

Casey Scully had four goals apiece while seniors
Courtney Hocking and
Kasey Hughes each registered a hat trick. Freshman
Brittney Mabus scored her second career goal in the 13th minute.
Hocking opened the scoring with back to back goals, the first coming on a free position shot and the second off a feed from
Victoria Vivonetto. Scully then netted three straight goals for the Maroon & Gold, followed by tallies from Mabus and Collins. Long Island (0-3) stopped the run in the 18th minute on a goal by Kristina Scheerer. Iona led 13-3 at the half and retained a double-digit lead through the remainder.
The Gaels showed strength in the circle, outperforming the visitors 16-10 in draw controls. Iona also led 28-21 in shot attempts and 19-17 in ground balls. Senior goalkeeper
Carlee Street made ten saves to improve her season record to 1-2 while Amber Meek and Jacqueline Simonian combined for four saves for Long Island.
Iona will play its next three games on the west coast over spring break, beginning with a March 13 contest at Oregon.
