HAMDEN, CT - The Iona College lacrosse team ended a season-long string of away contests, playing its fifth consecutive game on the road which ended in a 19-9 loss to Quinnipiac.  Junior attack Caitlyn Collins led the Gaels with her first hat trick of the year.

The Maroon & Gold matched the Bobcats 5-5 in the second period, but a 14-4 halftime defecit proved to be too much to overcome.  Quinnipiac scored the first four goals of the day before Iona reached the scoring column.  Courtney Hocking scored on an assist from Kasey Hughes in the sixth minute to put the Gaels on the board. 

Leading 8-3 with 12 minutes left in the first half, the host squad went on a 6-0 run which created an 11 goal differential for Iona to climb back from.  Collins ended the half with an unassisted goal, her second of the afternoon.

In addition to her three tallies, Collins recorded three ground balls, one draw control, and one caused turnover.  Casey Scully followed with two goals, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.  Hocking, Hughes, Brittney Mabus, and Elizabeth Coholan rounded out the Gael goal scorers with one each.

Quinnipiac's Marissa Caroleo led all players with five goals, followed by three each from Lauren Matuszczak and Devon Gibney.

Iona returns to Mazzella Field on Mar. 28, hosting Liberty at 12:00 pm.
