BALTIMORE, MD - Junior transfer Michael Hodgen scored his first goal in Maroon & Gold in the 82nd minute as the Iona College men's soccer team used another late goal to earn a 3-2 win at Loyola in MAAC action on the road.

A game after tallying the winner in the final minute at Rider on Friday, the Gaels improved to 9-1 overall with their fourth tally in the final minute of a contest to earn a victory. Iona's lone blemish came at the hands of No. 15 St. John's two weeks ago.

Rookie F Ignacio "Nacho" Maganto had his hand in all three of Iona's goals, notching the first goal of the contest in the 12th minute of the contest. Maganto headed home a lob by junior MF Alexander Abdalla for his second goal of the season. The rookie Madrid, Spain native assisted on the team's other two tallies.

Loyola tied the score 12 minutes later on Stephen Dooley's fourth goal of the season. Sophomore MF Franklin Castellanos quickly regained the lead of Iona in the 28th minute, heading home a Maganto feed to put the visitors ahead 2-1.

Iona took a 9-5 advantage in shots through the first half with both Gael GK Borja Barbero and Greyhound GK Kyle Whitman each recording a save.

The Greyhounds evened the score at 2-2 in the 52nd minute as Kevin Curran's free kick found Gerwyn Jones' head for the equalizer.

Maganto's corner kick in the 82nd minute led to the game winner from Hodgen. 

Borbero had two saves while Whitman posted three in the loss.

It was just Iona's first win at Loyola in 15 matches (1-13-1) as the Gaels snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to 2001 over the Greyhounds. The two teams tied in their meeting in Baltimore in 1999, only time the Maroon & Gold came away with a point in the series. It also marks the first time in series history that Iona has won back-to-back contests. Over the last six meetings, each team has taken three.

The Gaels return home to host their Western NY counterparts Niagara (Oct. 7) and Canisius (Oct. 9). Both opponents went unbeaten at 1-0-1 in the first weekend of MAAC play.
