Mike loves to be a part of the Iona family and aspires to be a successful sports writer when he graduates.

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Iona College women's basketball team dropped a close 77-68 decision to Texas A&M Corpus Christi Tuesday evening at the American Bank Center.  The loss dropped the Gaels to 3-2 on the season and stopped the team's winning streak at two.

One of the biggest differences of the game was rebounding efficiency as the Gaels were outrebounded 62-41, which led to a 38-28 deficit in points in the paint.  The Maroon & gold also committed a season high 28 fouls, including six players with four personal fouls each.  The Islanders were able to convert on 26 of 39 free throws while Iona shot six-of-ten from the line.

Freshman Damika Martinez had a season high 21 points and pulled down six rebounds, while combating early foul trouble.  Senior Kristina Ford had 17 points and nine rebounds.  Damequia Montgomery led the Islanders with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

"I hope they are as disappointed as I am," commented head coach Anthony Bozzella.  "We had a great chance to take a huge lead and we just didn't capitalize on the opportunities we were given."

The Gaels look to bounce back at home against Long Beach State at the Hynes Center at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
