PHILADELPHIA, PA - In its first road game of the 2011 season, the Iona College lacrosse team (0-2) was defeated by a score of 17-6 in non-conference action at La Salle (1-1). Senior

Kylie Gregory led the Gaels with two goals apiece at McCarthy Stadium.
Iona took a 1-0 lead as junior
Casey Scully earned her third goal of the year off an assist from classmate
Kayla Smith 3:01 into the contest. The Explorers responded less than a minute later with three goals in a six minute span. Rachel Baker put La Salle on the scoreboard and Maggie O'Ferrall and Taylor Ruland added back-to-back free position goals to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.
Collins followed with an unassisted goal and
Elizabeth Coholan also netted a shot from free position, but La Salle registered five of the final six goals of the first half to hold a 9-3 advantage at halftime.
The Explorers kept up the attack in the second half, outscoring the Gaels 8-3 in the period. The Maroon & Gold held a 10-6 edge in ground balls over the 60 minutes, with
Brenna Lade, Coholan, and
Nicole Brancaccio reeling in two each. Iona also led 7-6 in caused turnovers, paced by a team-best three from Coholan. The Gaels were a perfect 6-6 in clear attempts on the day.
Freshman goalkeeper
Maria Ortiz made three saves in her second career appearance while Megan Corliss, Maura Malone, and Mara Schnellenback split time in the net for La Salle and totaled eight saves.
Iona continues its non-league schedule at Sacred Heart on Mar. 2. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
