NEW ROCHELLE, NY - With a 4-2 halftime lead, the Iona College lacrosse team saw Siena string together five straight goals in the second half on the way to a 9-6 defeat in MAAC action at Mazzella Field.  The Gaels (4-10, 2-2 MAAC) have now dropped three straight while the Saints (6-6, 1-2 MAAC) picked up their first conference win of the year.

Two of the squad's seniors got things started in the right direction for Iona on Senior Day.  Elizabeth Coholan and Caitlyn Collins earned their 20th and 19th season goals, respectively, to put the Gaels in front 1-0 and 2-1 through the first eight minutes.  After Siena's Deirdre McQuillan tied the score at 2-2 in the 20th minute, Brittney Mabus and Emily Taddei scored one minute apart to give the Maroon & Gold a two-goal cushion at the break.

The Saints registered six of the first seven goals of the second period to emerge with an 8-5 edge 14:41 to play.  Collins added a second tally on the afternoon to help Iona close to within two, but the Gaels would get no closer.

Collins led Iona with four points on two goals and two assists.  Coholan and Mabus each wrapped up with one goal and one assist.  Kristen Flynn had a team-best three ground balls while goalkeeper Maria Ortiz made seven saves.

Siena's Kristin McMillan led all players with four goals.  Iona held a slim 9-8 advantage in draw controls and led 26-18 in shots.  The Saints clipped the Gaels 11-9 in ground balls.  Netminder Kristin Concordia saved five for Siena.

Iona will play its final road contest of 2011 on April 15, taking on Marist at 4:00 pm.
