BETHLEHEM, PA - The Iona College lacrosse team (4-9) wrapped up a stretch of three games on the road, falling to non-conference opponent Lehigh (8-4), 14-9.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first minute,
Kristen Russ recorded her first goal of the season two minutes later to tie the score at one. Iona led 3-2, 4-2, and 5-4 in the first half with
Brenna Lade and
Caitlyn Collins netting go-ahead goals for the Gaels. Lehigh's Allison Thomas and Julie Tatios scored back-to-back to give the hosts a 6-5 edge before
Elizabeth Coholan knotted the game at 6-6 with 1:05 to go in the opening period.
The Mountain Hawks closed the half on a two-goal run and added three straight to begin the second. Trailing by four, Iona could only muster three tallies over the final 30 minutes to Lehigh's six.
Lade led the Gaels with a hat trick followed by a pair of goals from Collins. Coholan, Russ,
Kylie Gregory, and
Angela Grous rounded out the Iona scorers. Goalkeeper
Maria Ortiz made seven saves and raked in a game-high four ground balls. The Gaels outnumbered the Mountain Hawks 18-13 in that category, but were behind 20-5 in draw controls.
The Maroon & Gold resumes MAAC action hosting Siena on Senior Day, April 10 at 1:00 pm.
